Do You Know The 3 Requirements Of A Guitar Player?

Hans von Bülow was a famous conductor of the 19th century.

Yes, he’s long dead.

But he made a famous statement about learning music.

A statement I’ve heard repeated time and again:

Three things are necessary for a player. The first is technique, the second is technique, and the third is technique.

Now, I think that’s an overstatement.

In fact, I blame this sentiment for a very bad habit a lot of music teachers have:

Thinking ‘technique’ (whatever that means) is the most important thing…

And neglecting the actual bloody music!

But to be fair to von Bulow, he has a point.

What he meant was that without good control of your fingers…

Without ‘muscle memory’…

Music is an uphill battle.

And that’s a fair point.

But it’s not the whole story, either.

The best way to develop those ‘3 requirements – technique, technique, and technique…

Is NOT to focus on it.

It’s NOT to run through scales and endless exercises.

Why?

Because that trains you to repeat those exercises.

Let me put it another way:

Technique without music means no musical technique.

So what’s the best way to learn it?

To focus on a simple system that gives you scope for creativity and musical experimentation at every stage…

While at the same time building incredible ‘muscle memory’…

And developing your technique with ease.

Remember – always look for wholistic learning, not piecemeal.

“I have over the past couple of years purchased a number of your E Books. Being a late comer to playing a musical instrument (70 Plus). I looked for some material that would both help and inspire me on my Guitar learning journey. I found your E Books and was delighted with the content.

You go into the necessary details in a very explanatory way. The exercises are not bitty but sequential which is excellent. Thanks to you I have progressed significantly. Thankyou for putting all this content together and sharing it with people like me.

Excellent Job well done.” ~ Tony S.

‘Blessings Alex! Plz keep my communications going, I am having the greatest guitar moments, your technique is real.. with much love and health and abundance to you and yours!”~ B. H.

“It's already paying off in the way I hear things, and that I am able to spend relaxing time with my instrument, no focused tune, and still sounds good.” ~ Allan L.

“Little did I know how this would impact my understanding when in a jam with no music in front of me and not being familiar with a song in helping me figure out what I would need to know when the leader would call out Key of ? Because of your course I could quickly figure out what the chords would be that I would need to play for the song that I was unfamiliar with. I just had a jam on Friday night and I was able to quickly pick up on most of the chords and stay up with the seasoned players. I didn't play perfectly but I am learning that this isn't as hard as I thought it was.” ~ Jan P.

“I must say as well, your emails are fantastic. They are refreshing and what you say in them is how I have been thinking for many years – I need to do music my way!” ~ Sean F.

“Your boot camp has had a surprisingly large effect (thank you.). The production values of your bootcamp aren't that high and at first sight the content doesn't look that earth shattering but, as I said earlier, it's effect on my playing has been really profound.” ~ Chas F.
